Dominique Ansel Cronut: How to Store and Reheat Leftover Cronuts

I’m excited to share with you my experience trying the famous cronut for the first time. And not just any cronut, but one from the famous New York City Bakery, Dominique Ansel.

Aside from cronut, I also tried eclairs, DKA and caneles from Dominique Ansel Bakery. But that’s not all – I also experimented with reheating the leftover pastries, including the cronut, in the microwave for breakfast the next day.

What is a Cronut?

Have you ever heard of a cronut? It’s a delicious pastry that’s a cross between a croissant and a donut. It’s flaky, buttery, and sweet, with a texture that’s somewhere between a pastry and a cake. The cronut was created by pastry chef Dominique Ansel and has become a very popular treat in New York City!

What is an Eclair?

An eclair is a pastry that’s made with choux pastry dough that’s filled with cream and topped with chocolate icing. It’s a classic French pastry that’s been around for over a century. Ansel has put his own twist on the eclair, creating unique flavors and textures that have become popular among pastry lovers.

What is a Canele?

A canele is a small French pastry that’s made with vanilla and rum-flavored custard that’s baked in a special mold. The outside is caramelized and crispy, while the inside is soft and custardy. It’s a pastry that’s not as well-known as the cronut or eclair but is equally delicious.

What is a DKA?

A DKA, or Dominique Kouign Amann, is a pastry that’s similar to a croissant but with a caramelized sugar coating on the outside. It’s flaky, buttery, and sweet, with a texture that’s similar to the cronut. The DKA is another pastry that Ansel has become famous for.

Trying Cronut for the First Time

I finally had the chance to try a cronut from Dominique Ansel’s bakery, and it did not disappoint. I tried the blackberry jam with creamy coconut ganache flavor, and it was heavenly. The texture was flaky and buttery, and the flavor was sweet with just the right amount of tartness from the blackberry jam. It’s a pastry that’s definitely worth the wait in line.

How to Store and Reheat Leftover Cronut?

I ended up buying more pastries than I could eat in one sitting, so I decided to save some for the next day. The box said not to refrigerate or heat the cronut, but I decided to microwave it anyway. I put it in the fridge overnight and microwaved it for a few seconds the next morning. To my surprise, it still tasted pretty fresh and delicious.

How to Store Leftover Eclair?

For the leftover eclair, I decided to refrigerate it and let it come to room temperature before eating it. I was worried that microwaving it would melt the chocolate, so I left it out for an hour before enjoying it. It still tasted just as good as it did the day before.

Should You Reheat Leftover Canele?

The canele was dense and custardy, so I decided not to microwave it. Instead, I stored it in a cake stand with a dome to keep it fresh. The canele held up well as a leftover and still tasted just as delicious as it did the day before.

How to reheat Leftover DKA

The DKA is a pastry that’s meant to be eaten warm, so I decided to microwave it for a few seconds before enjoying it. I stored it in a cake stand with a dome to keep it fresh, and it still tasted flaky and sweet.

Trying a cronut for the first time was definitely an experience. Dominique Ansel’s pastries are truly unique and special.

Even though the box says not to, don’t be afraid to experiment with reheating your leftovers – refrigerating and microwaving the cronut didn’t ruin it at all! Plus, with our tips on how to properly store and reheat each pastry, you can enjoy them even after a day or two.
