Avocado Ripe Test: Firm Avocado or Soft Avocado

However, just looking at the color of the avocado does not give you a complete picture of whether or not the avocado is ripe. You need to squeeze the avocado to confirm its ripeness. If it feels firm, then it is not yet ripe. If the avocado feels a little soft but not mushy, then it is ripe. If your avocado feels overly mushy, then it is too ripe. A ripe avocado will feel soft when squeezed but it will not leave an indentation or feel mushy.

How to tell if Avocado is Ripe Stem

A third way to tell whether or not the avocado is ripe is by peeling the stem cap. Peeling the stem cap will give you a peek into what is underneath the avocado skin. The stem cap will not easily peel off for avocados that are not yet ripe. That is an indication that the avocado is not yet ripe.

Ripe avocados will have a stem cap that is easy to peel off. And when you peel off the stem cap of ripe avocados, the flesh underneath will be green in color. For overripe avocados, the stem cap will also easily peel off but the flesh underneath will be brown in color. The brown coloring indicates that when you cut open the avocado, you will have brown spots inside the avocado flesh.
