Sam’s Club Beef with Broccoli Prepared Meal Cooking Tutorial and Review
If you’ve ever been to Sam’s Club, you know their prepared meals can save you on those busy nights when cooking feels impossible. Today, I’m testing their Beef with Broccoli meal kit to see if it’s really worth it.
Below, I’ll go over how I cook it step by step, share a little trick that makes the beef super tender, and give you my honest review at the end.
What’s in the Sam’s Club Beef with Broccoli Meal Kit
This meal comes fully cooked with rice, beef, broccoli, and teriyaki sauce. It looks simple, but how you heat it can make all the difference, and I’ve got a tip that will take it from “okay” to really tasty.
Cooking the Beef with Broccoli
1. First, heat a skillet on medium-high and add a little oil. Let the pan get nice and hot.
2. Once it’s hot, add the beef with broccoli. You’ll hear that sizzle—that’s exactly what you want.
3. In a cup, add a bit of water. Pour in a splash of water and cover it to let it steam for a few minutes.
4. Now here’s my special trick. Without this step, the beef can get really tough, and my kids will not like it. In a cup, mix about a teaspoon of cornstarch with water. Stir it until smooth, then pour it into the pan. This not only tenderizes the beef, but it also thickens up the sauce so it feels more like takeout-style Chinese food. Trust me, without this, the beef can turn out tough. This step tenderizes the beef.
5. Now add the two packs of teriyaki sauce that come with the kit. Give it a stir so everything is coated.
6. Continue sautéing for a few more minutes until the beef and broccoli develop a beautiful golden-brown color. It smells amazing already!
Cooking the Rice
While the beef finishes up, let’s do the rice. Transfer the rice to a microwave-safe container. Heat it for three minutes. I tried heating it for just a minute and a half at first, and it was undercooked, but three minutes makes the rice fluffy.
Assembling the Meal
Now let’s put it all together. Scoop the rice into a bowl and top it with the beef and broccoli. It looks just like takeout, but it’s ready in minutes.
Sam’s Club Beef with Broccoli Tasting and Review
So how does it actually taste? At first, I wasn’t sure about this meal. The rice was undercooked, and the beef was tough before I used my cornstarch trick. But after microwaving the rice for three minutes and adding the cornstarch, everything came together perfectly. The rice was fluffy, the beef was tender, and the sauce was flavorful. My kids and I really enjoyed it.
It’s not authentic Chinese food—it’s more American-style—but it’s tasty and convenient. The kit feeds three people.
I happened to get it on sale for 25% off, but normally it costs $15 to $16. That’s a little more expensive than my local Chinese takeout, where I can get a large quart of beef with broccoli for $14.95 with no cooking or cleanup.
Would I buy it again? At the current full price, probably not. If the price were closer to $10, I would definitely buy it, since it would be cheaper than takeout. At full price, I’d likely stick with my local takeout because it’s easier and more affordable.
