How to Cook Trader Joe’s Scallion Pancakes and My Review
Trader Joe’s Scallion Pancakes are one of my husband and kids’ favorite frozen foods from Trader Joe’s.
They’re delicious, fast to prepare, and one of those freezer foods I like having around when we want something savory without much work.
They’re also flavorful enough that we don’t use any dipping sauce. They taste great just as they are.
To me, they taste surprisingly authentic—similar to the scallion pancakes you might get at a Korean restaurant.
The most important thing I learned while making them is this: make sure your pan is hot before you start cooking.
In my video, I cooked the scallion pancakes in two batches, and you can really see the difference.

How to Cook Trader Joe’s Scallion Pancakes
I cook Trader Joe’s Scallion Pancakes in a skillet.
The goal is to get the outside nicely browned and crispy while keeping the inside soft and tender.
Here’s the basic method:
- Heat a skillet before adding the scallion pancakes.
- Add the frozen pancakes to the hot pan.
- Cook until the bottom develops a nice golden-brown color.
- Flip and cook the other side.
- Continue cooking until both sides are crispy and the center is heated through.
- Let them cool slightly before serving.
They cook quickly, which makes them an easy snack, appetizer, side dish, or quick lunch.
The Secret to Crispy Trader Joe’s Scallion Pancakes
The biggest lesson from cooking these is to start with a properly heated pan.
In my video, I made two batches.
For the first batch, my pan wasn’t hot enough.

The pancakes still cooked and tasted good, but the outside didn’t get quite as crispy or nicely browned as I wanted.
For the second batch, the pan was already hot.

That made a noticeable difference.
The second batch developed a much nicer golden color and crispy exterior while staying soft and tender on the inside.
That’s the texture you want.
So if you want crispy Trader Joe’s Scallion Pancakes, give your skillet enough time to heat before adding them.
Cook Them Straight From Frozen
Another reason I like these scallion pancakes is that they’re so easy to prepare.
There’s no complicated prep and no need to make scallion pancake dough yourself.
You can take them from the freezer and cook them when you need them.
That makes them particularly useful when you want something quick.
My Trader Joe’s Scallion Pancakes Review

These are one of the frozen Trader Joe’s foods that my family really loves.
My husband and kids are big fans, and they’re always happy when I make them.
I like them too because they’re so easy and fast to prepare.
The scallion pancakes have plenty of flavor on their own. We don’t feel like they need soy sauce or another dipping sauce.
They’re delicious just as they are.
The texture is also really good when you cook them correctly.
With a hot pan, you get a crispy, browned exterior with a soft, tender center.
And flavor wise, they remind me of something you’d order at a Korean restaurant rather than something you simply pulled out of the freezer.
For a frozen food that takes very little work, I think that’s pretty impressive.
A Note About Food Allergies
My son has a peanut and tree-nut allergy, and he was able to eat the Trader Joe’s Scallion Pancakes we purchased without a problem.
That said, ingredients, allergen statements, and manufacturing practices can change, so if you or someone in your family has a food allergy, always check the current package label before eating them.
What works for my family shouldn’t replace checking the product yourself.
Do Trader Joe’s Scallion Pancakes Need Dipping Sauce?
Not in our house.
You certainly can serve them with a dipping sauce if you want, but I don’t think they need one.
They already have plenty of savory scallion flavor.
If you do want a sauce, you could try:
- Soy sauce
- Soy sauce with rice vinegar
- Chili crisp
- Sesame oil and soy sauce
- A spicy dipping sauce
But I recommend trying one plain first.
You might find that you prefer them without anything added.
What to Serve With Trader Joe’s Scallion Pancakes
You could eat the scallion pancakes by themselves as a snack or appetizer, but they also make an easy side dish.
Try serving them with:
- Fried rice
- Dumplings
- Stir-fried vegetables
- Chicken
- Beef
- Noodles
- Soup
They can also work as part of an easy Trader Joe’s dinner where you combine a few frozen favorites.
Why My Second Batch Came Out Better
Making these in two batches turned into a useful little experiment.
My first batch went into a pan that wasn’t quite hot enough.
They cooked, but the color and crispiness weren’t optimal.
By the time I cooked the second batch, the skillet was properly heated.
Those pancakes came out much better.
They had the golden-brown, crispy outside I was looking for while still staying soft inside.
So if your scallion pancakes aren’t getting crispy, the problem may not be the product or the cooking time.
Your pan may simply need to be hotter.
