How to Cook Costco Seeds of Change Quinoa and Brown Rice and My Review

Seeds of Change Quinoa & Brown Rice is one of those Costco staples I never want to run out of.

I always buy it at Costco because I’ve found that buying the multipack there is the cheapest way for me to keep it stocked.

There is almost always a case of it in my pantry.

I think of it as my backup side dish — especially for those nights when I forgot to make rice in the rice cooker or simply don’t have time to wait for rice to cook.

Since it’s ready in just 90 seconds in the microwave, it has saved dinner more than once.

How to Cook Seeds of Change Quinoa & Brown Rice

It’s so easy because the quinoa and brown rice are already cooked.

Here’s the instructions:

  1. Squeeze the pouch to separate the rice and quinoa.
  2. Tear the top of the pouch open about 2 inches to vent.
  3. Microwave on HIGH for 90 seconds.
  4. Carefully remove the pouch from the microwave.
  5. Open it completely, fluff the rice and quinoa, and serve.

Be careful when you open the pouch because it can be very hot.

That’s it.

No rice cooker, no pot, and no waiting for water to boil.

Why I Always Buy It at Costco

I usually buy Seeds of Change Quinoa & Brown Rice from Costco because the multipack is a better value for us than buying individual pouches.

Since we use it regularly, I’d rather buy a case and keep plenty in the pantry.

This is one of those foods I don’t like running out of.

If dinner is almost ready and I suddenly realize I forgot to make a side dish, I know I can grab one of these pouches and have rice on the table in 90 seconds.

My Backup Rice for Busy Nights

Normally, I make rice in my rice cooker.

But sometimes I forget to start it.

Other times, dinner is already almost ready and I realize there isn’t enough time to cook rice from scratch.

That’s when this becomes my backup rice.

It’s probably one of the easiest ways to rescue dinner when you realize at the last minute that you need a side.

You don’t need to measure water, wash rice, or wait for anything to cook.

Just microwave and serve.

What Does Seeds of Change Quinoa & Brown Rice Taste Like?

This isn’t completely plain rice.

It’s flavored with garlic, which gives it more flavor than regular brown rice.

That’s one reason my kids like it.

The quinoa also gives it a slightly different texture than plain rice, but it’s still mild enough to serve with lots of different meals.

I usually don’t feel like I need to add much to it because it already has flavor.

My Seeds of Change Quinoa & Brown Rice Review

This is definitely a pantry staple in our house.

My kids like it, it’s convenient, and I love knowing that I always have an easy side dish available.

The biggest selling point for me is how fast it is.

Ninety seconds is a lot easier than realizing at 6 p.m. that I forgot to start the rice cooker.

It also works with so many different meals, so I never feel like the extra pouches are going to sit unused in the pantry.

My Favorite Way to Serve It: Costco Rotisserie Chicken

One of my easiest Costco dinners is Costco rotisserie chicken with Seeds of Change Quinoa & Brown Rice.

The chicken is already cooked.

The rice takes 90 seconds.

Then for vegetable, I serve it with Costco’s bagged Caesar salad.

It’s one of those meals that requires very little effort but still feels like a complete dinner.

My Super Quick Work from Home Lunch

I don’t only use this as a dinner side dish.

Sometimes, if I’m working from home and it’s just me, I want lunch to be as quick as possible.

I’ll heat up the quinoa and brown rice and eat it with a fried egg on top.

That gives me a fast, warm lunch without having to make a full meal.

The garlic flavor in the rice works really well with the egg, too.

It’s simple, but it’s one of those lunches I can make in just a few minutes and get right back to work.

A Note About Food Allergies

My son has a peanut and tree-nut allergy, and he has been able to eat the Seeds of Change Quinoa & Brown Rice that we purchase without a problem.

However, ingredients and manufacturing practices can change.

If you or someone in your family has a food allergy, always check the current ingredient list and allergen information on the package before eating it.

What to Serve With Quinoa & Brown Rice

Because the flavor is fairly versatile, you can serve it with lots of different foods.

Some easy ideas include:

  • Costco rotisserie chicken
  • Grilled or baked chicken
  • Fried eggs
  • Salmon
  • Steak
  • Stir-fried vegetables
  • Meatballs
  • Roasted vegetables
  • Leftover chicken or beef

It’s especially useful when the main part of dinner is already prepared and you just need something quick to go alongside it.

Is Costco Seeds of Change Quinoa & Brown Rice Worth Buying?

For my family, yes.

I like that I can keep a case in the pantry and know that I always have a side dish available.

It’s flavorful, my kids like it, and it only takes 90 seconds to make.

Most importantly, it saves me on those nights when I forgot to make rice or simply don’t have time.

That’s why this is one Costco pantry staple I always try to keep stocked.
