My Massive $619 Costco Haul

I just got back from Costco and I am still in shock. I went in for three things—Mt. Comfort coffee since it’s on sale, minced garlic because I ran out, and this new sparkling water. I thought this was going to be a quick in-and-out trip, but somehow my total came out to $619. I honestly don’t know how this keeps happening.

To make it worse, Costco doesn’t even carry the sparkling water anymore. If anyone from Costco is watching this, please bring it back—my son and his friends are obsessed with it.

Lately, I really don’t enjoy going to Costco because I always feel like I overspend. If you saw my last Costco haul, I spent $787, so I was sure this trip would be less… but I was wrong.

Below, I’m sharing my $619 Costco haul. It’s mostly necessities with a few impulse buys.

Costco Food and Drink Buys

First, I picked up these Linzer Heart Cookies for $7.99. My kids and I love these cookies, and Costco only brings them back once a year for Valentine’s Day, so when I saw them, I had to buy a box. Another reason I love these is that they’re made in a nut-free and sesame-free facility, which is perfect for my son who has food allergies.

Next, we were completely out of yogurt, so I bought a case of Chobani yogurt for $17.99. It comes with 20 yogurt cups, which works out to about 90 cents per cup. That’s a great deal since the same yogurt usually costs around $1.50 per cup at my local grocery store.

I also picked up an 18-ounce tub of organic blueberries for $8.99. I’ve been trying to eat healthy lately, and for breakfast I’ve been mixing these organic blueberries into my yogurt. I love adding blueberries for an extra boost of antioxidants.

I bought a pack of Costco’s Birria Tacos for $25.99. My kids love these, and I honestly haven’t seen them at my local Costco for a while, so I was worried they had been discontinued. I was relieved to see they still carry them. This pack comes with 8 tacos, birria dipping sauce, and Mexican rice. My son is going to be very happy to have this for dinner tonight.

My kids don’t eat a lot of vegetables, but whenever I make these sheet pan vegetables, they will eat them. This is one of the very few frozen vegetables they actually like, so when I saw the Tattooed Chef Sheet Pan Vegetables on sale, I had to stock up. It’s $2.90 off, making each bag $10.99.

We haven’t had chicken pot pie in a while, and the kids love it, so I picked one up. It’s $3.99 per pound. This oversized, giant pot pie came out to $22.66.

I have a bit of a love–hate relationship with Costco bananas. On one hand, the price is amazing—$2.49 for a bunch of organic bananas. But on the other hand, the quality can be really hit or miss. Sometimes they never turn yellow, and other times they go straight from green to mushy. Because of that, I’ve been avoiding Costco bananas for a while now. But this time, I decided to give them another chance. Worst case, I’ll just throw the bad ones into smoothies.

This coffee is actually one of the main reasons I came to Costco. I recently started drinking this organic Mount Comfort coffee, and I’ve been loving it. One thing I really appreciate is that the beans are not oily or shiny. I had to get my espresso machine repaired once, and I was told that oily beans can clog the grinder and damage older, non-digital machines. Ever since then, I’ve been on the hunt for non-oily coffee beans, and this one is exactly what I’m looking for. It’s also on sale for $15.89 for a 2.5 pound bag, which is an amazing price.

So I went back to Costco planning to stock up and got eight bags—but I didn’t realize there was a limit on the sale. For the first five bags, I got the $4.10 discount, but the last three bags rang up at full price, $19.99 each. That means I overpaid by $12.30, which is honestly a lot. I may go back and return those three bags.

I usually buy the Caesar salad kit from Costco, but I saw another shopper buying these butter lettuce heads, so I figured I’d give them a try since I like butter lettuce. I picked up two tubs for $4.99 each. But once I got home and looked more closely, I realized they’re not pre-washed. Most nights, I honestly don’t have time to wash lettuce, so I’m already regretting this purchase. I definitely prefer something that’s ready to eat.

I’m usually too busy—or too lazy—to mince fresh garlic, so I rely on jarred minced garlic. It’s not quite the same as fresh, but it gets the job done, especially on those hectic days. I got this jar for $6.99.

I can never leave Costco without buying eggs. I picked up two tubs of organic eggs, and they’re $7.69 for two dozen.

My kids love snacking on Ritz crackers, so I got a case for $10.99.

We’re trying to eat more fish, so I picked up these flounder fillets. They’re $10.99 per pound, which isn’t the cheapest—I can usually find them for less at my local grocery store. But since I was already at Costco and it saves me an extra trip, I went ahead and got this pack, which came out to $21.98.

I drink Vintage seltzer every day, so I always buy a case whenever I’m at Costco. This time, I picked up two cases, and they’re $8.99 each.

Spam was on sale, so I had to buy some. I got a case of 8 cans for $19.49.

Apparel Buys

I was literally about to leave the store when I noticed that Costco is now selling Nike hoodies and sweatpants. Men’s Nike hoodies are only $35.99, which is an amazing price because the same hoodie is around $70 at Dick’s Sporting Goods. I had to buy one for my teen son. He loves Nike apparel so much that Nike hoodies were actually on his Christmas wish list.

Personal Care Items

I recently took my son to the dermatologist for his eczema, and we were told to switch to unscented laundry detergent. If you’ve watched my previous Costco haul videos, you know I’m very loyal to Gain—I actually just stocked up on it in my last $787 Costco haul. But now we have to make the switch for my son. I picked up All Free and Clear detergent, and since it’s $5 off, I bought two bottles, which came out to $14.99 each.

My daughter uses these CeraVe facial moisturizers, and she really likes them because they have SPF 30, which is always a plus. The 2 pack is $23.99.

The dermatologist also advised us to switch my son’s body wash to an unscented one. I’m usually not loyal to any particular body wash and just buy whatever’s on sale. In fact, in my last Costco haul, I stocked up on scented Olay body wash, which my son can’t use anymore. So, this time, I bought a 3-pack of hypoallergenic Dove body wash for $17.99. Unfortunately, it’s not on sale, but I had no choice but to buy it at full price.

Next, I picked up a 2-pack of Sonicare toothbrushes, which is currently $30 off, bringing the price down to $69.99. Our entire family uses Sonicare, but the problem is they tend to break every few years. Because of that, I like to buy backups whenever they’re on sale—I don’t want to ever pay full price. My son’s Sonicare is basically at the end of its life, so this will be his replacement.

Household Items

Charmin toilet paper was on sale for $6.60 off, so I had to buy one. The price came down to $26.90 for 30 rolls, which is a good price.

We were almost out of soy sauce, so I picked up a bottle for $6.79. It’s a pantry staple that I don’t like to run out of.

Over the Counter Meds

I almost didn’t include this, but lately I’ve been needing Gas-X. Costco’s price beats both CVS and Amazon, and since it’s also on sale, I saved an extra $3, bringing the price down to $13.99 for a pack of 120 softgels.
